Artist Demonstration: Nicole McLaughlin [Water | Craft]

Join MMAM exhibiting artist, Nicole McLaughlin, for an artist demonstration that will serve as a window into her studio practice. Viewers will have the opportunity to experience each stage of her process. Watch as Nicole throws on the potter's wheel to create components for her sculptural works and then how she glazes and decorates the surface of each form. As a mixed media artist, often jumping between materials, Nicole will also show her process of dyeing thread in indigo and how she then integrates the dyed thread into her ceramic forms. While demonstrating her many processes, Nicole will speak on the importance of material choice and the historical and cultural significance of why she uses the materials and techniques that she does.

Nicole McLaughlin's work will be exhibited as part of the "Water | Craft" exhibition at MMAM on view January 24 - December 27, 2026.

About the artist: Nicole McLaughlin was born and raised in Massachusetts but spent much of her early childhood in Mexico. As a first generation Mexican-American, she is heavily influenced by her multicultural upbringing and her childhood memories of visiting her mother’s home town of Cuernavaca, Mexico. Nicole received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, MO. She has exhibited nationally, internationally and her work is included in several private collections. Nicole is currently working from her studio in Yarmouth Port, MA and is represented by Anderson Yezerski Gallery in Boston, MA. Nicole continues to draw inspiration from Mexican ceramics, textiles, and cultural traditions in hopes of showing how her life has been shaped by a collision of two cultures.
